After a successful US Olympic Trials in Greensboro, North Carolina last week, six more elite US table tennis athletes will be joining 2015 US Nationals winners, Yijun Feng and Jiaqi Zheng, as they move on to the 2016 North American Olympic Trials in Markham, Canada in April. At the 2016 North American Olympic Trials, they will be competing with Canada’s best for three men’s spots and the two remaining women’s spots. If you remember from last year, Jennifer (Yue) Wu won the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games which earned her a spot on Team USA for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Each of the three days was a tournament on both the men’s and women’s side. Each athlete had to win one of those single elimination tournaments to qualify for the 2016 North American Olympic Trials. On the men’s side, Timothy Wang (Day 1), Sharon Alguetti (Day 2), and Kanak Jha (Day 3) each won a single elimination bracket. On the women’s side, Chen Wang (Day 1), Lily Zhang (Day 2), and Crystal Wang (Day 3) each won a single elimination bracket.
JOOLA is proud of all our athletes that competed and happy to celebrate with Sharon Alguetti for winning a spot on the qualifying team!
