In Las Vegas Thomas Keinath won the US Open with a clear 4:0 victory over Adrian Crisan (Romania). The two JOOLA stars Jrg Rosskopf and Chen Weixing, defeated a pairing from South Korea 4:1 in the final to take the doubles.
Amelie Solja had an impressive debut. At her first attempt she beat many strong players to win the U 21 tournament using the JOOLA Amy rubbers, specially developed by herself. In the singles she was defeated in the quarter finals by her constant rival, Elisabeth Samara form Romania.
The German Champion 2008, Tanja Hain-Hofmann, also left a strong impression. Only in the finals was she closely defeated by the US local hero Gao Yun (world ranking no. 19) by 4:2. In the previous rounds she beat Canada’s no. 1, Zhang Mo and defeated world ranked no. 36, Daniela Dodean, by 4:3. After her success at the Flandern Open this was the second best result at world ranking tournmaments this summer for Tanja.
Jrg Rosskopf had to say an early goodbye in the quarter finals of the singles against Filimon (Romania) . He gambled away a 3:0 lead and couldn’t capitalise on several match points.
Last year’s champion Chen Weixing also gave way in the quarter finals against the Wang from Canada. However, he was strongly penalised by the umpire for foul serving and lost several points.
As in 2008 the JOOLA players dominated the US Open in the gambler’s paradise Las Vegas and won the major part of the prize money.
