How many times has a serve just ripped by you or caught you off guard? Or maybe you weren’t ready in time to make the proper service return? Maybe it’s because you’re rusty and haven’t played in awhile? Whatever the reason is, a tip that has always helped me get back on track is to visualize. Right before an opponent is about to serve, take a look down at your side of the table and do a quick run through of all the possible service scenarios. Short backspin service to my forehand? No problem, I’ll just forehand flip that to their middle. Deep backhand topspin serve? No big deal, I’ll just backhand loop that. Visualize all the service possibilities, where you would return it, and you’ll be ready for anything!
