Gold was the color on the minds of Team JOOLA’s best as they headed to Texas for the 2023 US National Table Tennis Championships last week. Standout performances saw Amy Wang and Stanley Hsu bring home triple crowns in the respective Women’s and Under 15 Boy’s events. Team JOOLA veteran Lily Yip landed an astounding 9 gold medals and 1 bronze from her 10 events.

The spotlight was indeed upon Amy Wang as she brought home her second US National Title in Women’s Singles. Having already secured the Mixed Doubles Gold with Nikhil Kumar, and the Women’s Doubles Gold with Rachel Sung – Wang’s eyes were set on the main event.

Exercising her usual cool composure under the pressure, Wang quickly showed why she was the favorite for the event. She overcame Isabella Xu and a spirited Wantong Liu after sailing through the group stage.

The final saw a faceoff with Sally Moyland, and Wang had a score to settle.

Wang’s impeccable placement was pivotal in the match. In the topspin exchanges her execution was flawless, looking unphased in the rapid rallies. Her strengths were on show as she countered with ease. Moyland fought hard, but in the crucial points of each game, Amy Wang was the player to close things out.

All smiles back on the bench between games, Wang and LYTTC Coach Cory Eider proving a formidable team. In the end a 4-1 victory and a second US National Singles title for Amy Wang.

In the Under 15 Boy’s Singles it was Stanley Hsu who set the bar, winning a triple crown. In doing so he cemented his place as the number 1 player on the Under 15 Boy’s Team.

Hsu got stronger as the event progressed, with his performances improving the deeper he went in the draw. The final – a convincing 3-0 win against Xianyao He.

Hsu paired with JOOLA teammate Krish Gandhi, who won bronze in the singles, to win gold in the Under 15 Boy’s Doubles. He took home the Mixed Crown with Yishiuan Lin.

Gandhi also sealed his place on the podium with a silver medal in the Under 17 Boy’s Singles and a bronze in the Under 15 Mixed Doubles.

In the US Nationals Senior events Lily Yip made the biggest splash in the pond. From her ten events she won 9 gold medals and 1 bronze. No competition was able to stand up to Yip, who swept the 40, 50 and 60 +  Over Women’s Singles events.

She also captured gold in the 40 and 50 + Over Mixed Doubles, 50 and 60 + Over Women’s Doubles and Women’s and 40 + Over Hardbat events.

Her sole bronze medal came in the 40 + Over Women’s Doubles.

Sid Naresh was a big contender in the event, narrowly missing out on advancing into the medal rounds in the Men’s Singles in a 7 game showdown. He claimed silver and bronze in the U19 doubles events, but his redemption came in the Under 21 event.

Naresh brought home the gold in the Under 21 Men’s Singles to bring a close to his tournament. A straight games final against Anav Gupta sealed the deal.

JOOLA Coach Gao Yanjun showed he still has the moves on the table, he brought home the title in the 40 and Over Men’s Singles event and a silver in the doubles. He also won an extra special medal in the Under 4000 Doubles event – taking home silver with his son Lewis Gao.

All our Team JOOLA players at the US Nationals found themselves bringing home some silverware with Faith Hu, Kayla Goodwin, Ryan Lin and Mu Du all winning medals in the youth doubles events.
